(Actually, around here people are lined up at the local auto dealers to take advantage of the "clunkers" Billion dollar subsidy, before it runs out.)

As for the new extra fat tax credit for insulating your home to a higher R-value, I hear that has ginned-up a lot of business for the contractors and home repair chains that are in the biz of doing that.)

And --- although *both of these* things are, (obviously), targeted subsidies delivered via way of the tax codes... they are also there not even primarily for 'stimulus' but more to reduce the energy usage in this country.

Long-term conservation, in other words, or 'energy security'.

(And, as far as the "clunkers" idea goes... we copied it from Europe, where it was hailed as a resounding 'success' at getting lower mileage vehicles off the roads.)
