There was no "verbal altercation between the two of them". The verbal altercation was one-way, with Gates jumping the officer.

The stupidity that occurred that day was solely on the part of the Harvard Ph.D.

And had it been anyone else -- white or black -- he would have been required to make a court appearance and might well have been fined for his behavior.

The only complaint with Crowley is that he has acquiesced by agreeing to appear at the White House for a whitewashing of this entire incident.
