"Cops have a job to do and wield a lot of power......and way too often they abuse that power."

I worked as a maintenance engineer on the graveyard shift in a 4 star hotel in downtown Austin while in school. The security was provided by off-duty Austin cops, and I got to know them quite well, as there wasn't a lot to do but hang out, play cards and talk after 2:00 AM.

These guys were total assholes. They would swap information about locations where they had received free goods and services as cops, restaurants, massage parlors, bars, etc. All of them lived free in apartments provided by owners who wanted on-site police presence. They laughed about how they'd eat in a restaurant, prearrange to have another cop call them, then all run out as if on an important call without paying.

One cop in particular was really bad. In private, to me, he'd tell me that he had killed people, stolen drugs, extorted prostitutes for sex, and just generally run his own little crime wave from behind his badge. He'd DARE me to say anything to anyone.
