How can there be any communication with someone who refuses to look at the truth?

Being confrontational with police is such a bad idea - especially for an educated black man with such extensive knowledge of past black/police historical problems. This man Gates above all people should have known the proper way to deal with police is to follow their instructions and then file a lawsuit if you feel they over stepped in some way. You can at any time say "I do not consent to a search of my house" but then you should stand aside and let them break the law if you think that's what they're doing - I learned this from an ACLU produced video. Never verbally abuse or block the police - it only invites escalation and arrest - even when you're right. Cops are not judges, they are blunt instruments of government - make you're legal arguments before a judge not a cop doing what they believe is their job.

I don't disagree. Unfortunately, we are not always in control of our emotions. Apparently, Gates had just finished a long trip back from China......I read somewhere it took 25 hours. If true, there was major screwup along the way. When he got back, he found his front door jammed where someone had tried to break in........there had been a number of breakins in his neighborhood recently. So I suspect he was inside trying to figure out what had been stolen.....if anything. Then this aggressive cop comes rolling in demanding ID.......how would you react? Under the circumstances, I know I might have gotten indignant.
