Streamer pal, it seems to me that what you are saying is how people want their lives to be and how it should be, jfred is saying how it actually is. There doesn't seem to be any real disagreement. Your comments are general = parents want to protect and nurture their children, whereas jfred's are particular "apart from those who couldn't care less".
Things are getting better, slowly slowly, evolving along, but it is hardly running like a Swiss Watch. Determinist Rulz OK. Que sera sera. Everyone has their hopes, fantasies and facts of life to contend with.
I've lived in a vehicle - it is actually quite pleasant. A [VW] van.
But I would really love to pack myself into a Volvo, [VV] and drive away into the wild blue yonder. Sleeping under the moonbeams, or overpasses if raining, when exhausted from the journey. What a life.
It is too easy to get caught in the materialistic world, chasing around with a thousand little things to do.
For too many in the world, they will never sit on my wonderful One Tree Hill private retreat, dreaming their dreams. Personally, I don't want too many of them there either and therein lies the problem.
But you don't have to look to the third world to find traumatic mutilation of children. It seems to me that somebody had a hack at me!! I don't doubt that the pain was excruciating and any baby would develop a fear of repeat. It amazes me that I function as well as I do. I wonder what the person who did that to me would think if I got after them with some scissors, knife or whatever they used.
"Oh good, a little boy. Now just strap him down so he can't move. Take the mother away so she doesn't faint with sickness. Now gimmee those snips. They only scream for a while. They mostly don't actually die and what the hell, it's necessary. Can't think why, but it's probably character building too".
Like you Christine, I have children and to lose one or have me Sophie choosing would be traumatic. Actually, I wouldn't choose. There is no choice but defiance at times like that.
