At the rate that MSFT is catching up with NSCP (especially considering that the Windows 98 bundle should be compelling), I think NSCP should concentrate much more on bundled professional services - similar to that of ORCL, SAP, Anderson Consulting, etc. That seems to be where much of the margins lay. MSFT is aggresively expanding thier MCS (Microsoft Consulting Services) in an attempt to completely dominate the enterprise market. Perhaps a stock for stock purchase of a medium size consulting company would do NSCP well. From what I understand, they are consistently overbooked for such services and I doubt they can compete with MSFT on simple software sales.
