It's also amusing that the USA thinks they forced Gorby and Yeltsin to cancel the USSR, thereby winning the Cold War too. <americans won the wwii, but only in the typical and average american mind >

Assuredly, the USA was a great help, and especially so in the war against Japan which might not have gone China's way, even in the long run, had the USA simply allowed Japan's hegemony with the Greater East Asia Co-Prosperity Sphere and refrained from provoking Japan to attack the USA by military blockades of Japan's trade. But Russia gave Germany quite a pounding along the lines that Napoleon's Grand Armee received back in 1812. It's surprising that the history of military expeditions against Russia were not of more concern to the Germans in WWII.

Perhaps they figured the logistics were a lot better, with trucks instead of tramping through snow on foot, and with rail easily laid to the door.

Right now, the Cold War does not appear won at all, with umpty thousand atomic bombs in Russia and the USA still primed and ready to launch at a moment's notice. Yes, many ex-Soviet satellite states have joined NATO and the EU, with East Germany just another piece of the Fatherland, but Russia remains armed and ready to go with less than a friendly neighbourly relationship with EU/USA.

All very interesting and could lead to untoward circumstances.
