I challenge y'all to ask doctors and nurses you know who make a living working in hospitals - What is the proportion of hospital admissions which take place predominantly for CYA reasons? The answers will probably shock you. "Defensive Medicine" is far more expensive than people realize. Another expensive issue is government regulation, which is a huge industry in its own right. For the most part it's of very little - if any - real benefit. Combined, those two issues account for a huge part of the difference in costs between the healthcare in the US and other nations. And yet, they are hardly ever part of any public discussion.
