Brumar, > What is the point of being Socialist Lite ...

That's the tricky thing about being ahead of the game with regard to universal health care. How to provide basic coverage for everyone without resorting to "socialism lite," which never works.

I personally think it's possible to provide the uninsured with a bare-bones publicly-funded insurance program. Kind of like the USPS of health care. It can't compete directly against the private insurers, but it doesn't have to as long as it's (almost) free.

Unfortunately, paying for it will be a challenge as long as SS and Medicare continue to dominate federal spending. That's why I'm also for SS and Medicare reform. Better to be ahead of that game as well than to wait for a crisis to come and hope you're not the party holding the bag.

Even with Republican votes, the Democrats are going to take the blame. Even with the media covering for them, problems with implementing Obamacare will fall squarely on the shoulders of the Democrats.

I know what the Republicans are trying to do. Same thing the Democrats did when the Republicans were in control of the White House and Congress. The only thing funny about it is watching liberals who once proclaimed that "criticism is patriotic" now hold their leaders above reproach.
