Cash for clunkers is an obscene idea Absolutely!!! Someplace awhile back, I mentioned the cost (material and energy) of making the "clunker" in the first place, paying the people to make it, and to willfully destroy something that still runs well for the sake of a few mpg really is obscene. Not to mention what the metal will do to our landfills, and of course, the cost to buy a new one when people are out of jobs...

It is beyond wasteful! And probably many of the people who wanted someone else's labor/money for free, are probably the ones who bought houses beyond their means as well, and have maxed their credit, helping to send the house of cards into the tailspin this last year.
