Private companies have been contracted out to do all of these things, including war, and usually better. No one company could do ALL THOSE THINGS, and 1000's more as government does. Most private companies do one or two thing well, there isn't a corporation in the world that could even attempt to do all the 1000's of functions of governments. That said, OF COURSE governments use contractors when it make sense; when the contractors can do something better/cheaper. The majority of your tax dollars GO TO PRIVATE COMPANIES. When you whine about the quality of the work you are whining about the private sector. Really this is too complex for 'bumper sticker slogan' ideologues. Go to your county and ask if they have an educational tour of the things that they do; your government at work. The vast majority of the people you will meet are very hard working, mostly underpaid public servants trying their very best to make your community a better place to live, on limited funds, every single day. And quit being an ungrateful snob. The only reason you are successful is because our great governments allow you to be successful.
