."advance the cause of freedom" Yes. It hasn't gone as far as I'd like, and it hasn't gone as far as advancing democracy has gone, but Iraq is more free today than it was under Saddam. They had "democracy" in mid 1930's Germany At first, but once the Nazis where elected they outlawed other parties and had a sham of democracy. Perhaps that's what you mean by the quotations marks, well than the difference is that Iraq has democracy while Germany under the Nazis had "democracy". "Democracy" didn't have any problem with locking up Japanese Americans during WWII. Which goes to show that democracy doesn't imply that people will be perfectly free. Still people in a democracy tend to be freer than people living in dictatorships. That's the example in the real democracy of Iraq (no quotes), and in the democracy of the US in the 40s (again the quotes aren't deserved).
