Hong Kong-Based TCI National Digital Television Center to Bring MGM GOLD
Programming to Subscribers in Eight Countries
SAN DIEGO, Oct. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- NextLevel Systems, Inc. (NYSE: NLV) announced today that its Satellite Data Networks business will provide TCI's Hong Kong-based National Digital Television Center (NDTC) with a four-channel, DigiCipher(R) II/ MPEG -2 digital uplink encoding system and DSR-4400 receivers for its MGM Gold movie programming services in Asia.
MGM Gold is distributed via cable operators and DTH providers in eight countries throughout Southeast Asia. It is owned by MGM Gold Networks (Asia), a joint venture of Hollywood movie and television producer Metro-Goldwyn- Mayer and Encore International, an affiliate company of Encore Media Group (EMG). EMG is the largest provider of premium movie channels in the United States and is a venture of Liberty Media Corporation and Tele-Communications, Inc.
MGM Gold uplinks from the NDTC's facilities in Hong Kong to the APSTAR I satellite, which has a footprint covering Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand.
