This totally bolsters the argument that we don't need government involved in this business, and is an argument I've made here numerous times.

Once government gets its hands in health care (or practically anything else) it becomes politically untouchable. The same happened with SS -- when Bush tried to do something that would have eliminated the problems with SS over time, the Democrats attacked him politically. And today, the Republicans will use the same tactic with Medicare.

These programs are destined to fail for this reason. They instantly become third rail issues and then problems can't be addressed, let alone fixed.

So, while everyone is laughing at what appears to be an illogical remark, the reality is that this is precisely why government has no business interfering with health care at all.
