arrived yesterday in beijing for the weekend, to hold some meetings, and to check in on the coconut's progress at mandarin kindergarten.
erita is accompanied by four of her little friends, including paul who is just back from n.italy summer break
they are attending a kindergarten operated by the finance ministry of china for kids of its own staff
during the day program, they grow sunflowers, learn cooking, listen to chinese classic novels read, eat healthy, nap a bit, run around a lot.
she is also being coached in swimming by national sports federation instructor, and learning the game of "go" taught by the current national champion. btw, go, the game, imo, is to international and chinese chesss, as those games are to checkers and skip rope.
i went to pick her up at the facility yesterday, and she seems to be having the time of her life, all smiles and enthusiasm. mama reported that erita wished to attend school on weekends. it had to be explained to her that the facility does not operate on weekends.
while in hk summer kindergarten, coconut turned out to be the only montessori kid who had signed up for the noon lunch bunch and afternoon session, and as all her little friends decamped at the end of the morning session, her teacher phoned and asked whether we wished for a refund for the afternoon program, but also offered to try the 3-hours (by 3 teachers) afternoon program to see if erita would like it and wish to continue. alternatively erita can simply attend various play groups in the neighborhood club.
erita asked to continue, and day after day brought home the results of her project work and regaled with stories heard.
