>Any failing company can become a "success" story if it can rely on the government when times get tough.

GM (and Ford, and Chrylser) should never have been allowed to get "too big to fail" to begin with. But they did, and their collapse would destroy the lives of hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of people, and the government needed to do something.

>Remember what I said about rewarding mediocrity? I don't see you rushing to buy a GM car anytime soon.

I don't own a car and don't intend to anytime soon. But I'd consider it. I've owned two before.
