Well... at least this health care "debate" has given the Republican Party a chance to demonstrate their true belief in racial and ethnic equality.

We can now say... without fear of contradiction... that when push comes to shove, it matters not one wit to the GOP whether you are black, white, red or yellow; whether you pray, cuss or bomb churches; or whether you're a blood relative or Martian invader. If you can be pimped to increase their wealth and power... they will not hesitate to ream you into the ground no matter what it may otherwise cost themselves in honor and self-respect. Lee Atwater would be in tears... I mean... if his tears weren't constantly being evaporated in the fires of hell:

Of course, we have to remember... This isn't a trait limited to Republicans. No... not at all. Don't let Richard Nixon, Scoop Jackson, Dick Cheney, et al... fool you. The GOP was simply the "low hanging fruit" for this generation's raids into the US political herd.

Like the Lobbyist/Tax Cheat Cult on C Street in DC known as The Family... the thieves of Wall Street's Hedge Fund and Investment Banking biz... the leeches inhabiting the board rooms of corporatopia... or the priestly pedophile and child porn producer down the block... Party affiliation is not a distinguishing characteristic of the pirate breed.

No... if it were only that simple. Then maybe I might have a fair shot at finally understanding how you... and your optimist President... manage to sleep at night. I wonder how Lincoln did it?

Obviously he could have easily gone completely medieval on the South. Certainly neither England, France, Austria, Spain or the Pope could have criticised him with any credible moral authority. Certainly not in time to help them. Arguably it would have avoided 150 years of nearly continuous "Red State" problems. (Will those ever end?) But then Lincoln couldn't even bring himself to punish his own Gen. McClellan for his egregious failures of responsibility and honor. Hmmmm...

I smell yet another "teaching moment" coming on here.

This one will presumably be heavy on the civics of health care and governance. I'm guessing "Tea and Sympathy" will be an apt description of the sentiment presented. Or perhaps... "Tea, Sympathy and Prozac" would be a better description.

But of course, the real problem is the stubborn ignorance within our herd when it comes to anything having to do with government, finance and/or anything harder than breathing.

A solid 15% are just too dumb to do anything but be preyed upon; another 25% are so old and paranoid they can barely move, much less learn new tricks; another 40% don't give a damn as long as they can take a quick buck from anything that moves; 10% are optimistically sitting there, ready to take notes; and then you have 10% of us who simply can't understand why 75% of you aren't being shipped off to Nuremberg for trial... assuming you didn't murder each other on the flight over.

I may certainly be wrong... but I think this one is going to require three speeches of maximum effort from the President. Unless of course... he manages to "channel" a heavy dose of Lincoln's Coopers Union address. But that would of course be far too close to the "miraculous" for us pessimists to expect.

Any way... Robespierre isn't going anywhere. He can wait... a little while longer. <Hoo><Haa><Haa><Haa>
