I recall in the early/mid 80's when Sohio (I think) drilled a single well in the Beaufort Sea...dry hole...cost, one billion $ all in (and that's back when a billion was a lot of money!). "Consumers" forget, or are unaware, or don't care about. the high capital costs and risk that have to be taken in order to get a gallon of gasoline to Soccer Mom. ...and it only costs about the same as a gallon of bottled water...go figure.

And why can I rent a $30,000 car for about $40 yet it costs more to rent a $300 tux? Never have figured that one out. lol

It is interesting to note that the drilling contractor behind that giant rig is Parker Drilling (PKD). While investors have never really liked Parker (for a variety of reasons, of which most are valid) they have had an incredible history since the 30's or 40's for taking on the most challenging projects in the most remote corners of the world.
