If one wants to evaluate directions, it is useful to extend them to their extreme as a thought experiment. That makes it easier to see that the direction is wrong.

I wholeheartedly disagree. That's the justification for the supposed "Obama death panels" as a serious argument, when no such thing could EVER happen in this country.

Incremental movement in one direction, or the opposite direction, does not suggest that we will go to the extreme. It's the inflammatory argument of fear that kills reason. And if we never move in one direction or another then we never move.

It could be that they don't really represent their constituencies.

Don't know about the drug company lobby PhRMA, with a small constituency (a dozen or so companies?) then you would think they are in line. The Doctor polls I remember for single pay show about as many for as against... and the current proposals are way short of single payer. So I suspect the AMA is on board because of the Doctors, not despite them.

Bottom line is it makes me MORE cautious... it seems the industry supports reform much more than the consumer. Some say Obama is becoming a corporatist.... who'da thunk it.
