First of all, they ARE in the bigger cities that aren't staffed by liberals. They're in Dallas and Houston, for example.

They aren't the NE havens for socialists and other extreme liberals. And the reason is simple -- there are insane zoning requirements and difficult real estate markets, and serious problems with extreme activists.

WMT would love to be in NYC, but where are you going to put one? Their model requires a lot of space and that space simply isn't available. And if it were, you'd have millions of extremists fighting them.

As one WMT top manager said, "It just isn't worth the trouble."

They would gladly pay a higher wage, I'm sure, to be in NYC. But they aren't as likely to go to war with prospective customers who simply don't want them. A good business decision, I think.
