Actually there is ample evidence that it's rather the other way around! Check for instance the excellent group below, which actually also happens to be my pick: ihi.com The reason why they have made it so tough for Germans to switch from one of the 200+ (!) de facto government controlled health insurance companies to a private alternative is to prevent all the so called 'well offs', who also happen to be lower risks, from leaving and joining a private insurance company of choice. These mostly offer vastly improved services at same or even lower cost - and still make good money. Taro
