Ted, I wish I could have been a fly on the wall where conversations took place between Laura Ling and the rest of her family. I can already imagine her mother berating her and telling her, "Why can't you be like your sister and just stay here in America?"

I would have wanted to be a fly on the wall as well. I always find it interesting when one family member doesn't get what another family member really thinks of them. And the mother looks like a real ball buster and is divorced from the father.

BTW Lisa Ling travels a lot out of the country as well. In fact, she has had some very dangerous assignments.....like one from Columbia where she reports about the drug cartels down there.

From the sound of it, though, it seems like Laura and Euna were treated relatively well, despite being worried 24/7 about being sent to a labor camp. I guess not even North Korea was willing to risk having their political pawns die in captivity.

Were you surprised? I wasn't. Kim jong-il didn't dare screw with them.
