Yes, but the rapid increase people talk about was a result of changing the definition.

That's because the definition was ridiculous. I was always considered to be 10 to 15 lbs below normal under the old definition and trust me, when I say, I was not underweight. It was a sleight of hand practiced by whomever to keep us from thinking we were fat. And let me say, right now, I am not thin by even my old standards. I gained about 30 lbs when I came down with asthma and have been slowly losing the weight. I am down to the last 10 lbs.....so I know how hard it is to lose the weight. Having said that, I am in good shape because I work out 5 days per week.

The people in this country are under way too much stress and food has become an outlet to relieve that stress. My first wake up call on how fat we were was when I went to Paris the first time. I was shocked at how the thin the French are. My second wakeup call was when I was visiting my German friends in Chicago. We went to a Chilis to eat. I had never been before and was stunned at the size of the portions. Then my German friends said to look around.....every person in the place was overweight.....significantly.

Increadingly, American kids are overweight and are coming down with adult diseases like adult Diabetes. Its become epidemic......and if they are fat now, imagine what they will be like when they are adults.
