The fact remains that to the self proclaimed glitteratti views such as obesity is an epidemic threatening our healthcare system prevail.

You really don't think that obesity is an expensive epidemic?

People are routinely denied joint replacement in Britain if they are over weight. People with other lifestyle "problems" are denied care for similar reasons.

I realize that the denial scenario in Britain is bad. But do you really think that those who are not in good enough shape to do the rehab qualify for knee or hip replacement? That's a waste of money no matter who is paying for it and no matter whose loved one has the bum joint. You don't need to be biased against the obese or a nanny authoritarian to recognize that.

Once again you're trying to turn an exaggeration into a probability. It's not. Morbidly obese patients may well end up not getting hip replacements on the public dime. That's as it should be, seems to me. Overweight people in otherwise good shape, OTOH, are not disqualified in Britain nor would they be here.
