Mish:

RE: "Consumers will either default on debt, pay their debt down very slowly over time, or some combination of both."

Can you please explain why US cannot simply declare a bank holiday, devalue the US$ by 50% overnight, and thus inflate itself out of debt, and likely increase Money Velocity as everyone starts purchasing assets with declining US$.

This seems to be a third option you are overlooking, US inflates itself out of debt. Maybe I am missing something, but my recollection is that you have never addressed the impact of bank holiday coupled with US$ devaluation. Please devote a post explaining the impact of such actions.

Thanks.
