PPO docs agree to accept the bid price of the insurance company which would be a lower price than the prevailing rate in the area..... It stands to reason they are the docs least in demand and therefore willing to take less money. PPO dentists operate the same way with some will to take anything the insurance offers as payment in full.... Around here they are the dentists that bat ninth in the lineup... HMO docs are hired by the HMO and have to bring in x number of patients with them, usually more than 1000.... There also some organizations including hospitals that only pay docs a salary...
