"Medical malpractice settlements and awards are about 1% of the amount paid for health care." Others have pointed out that there are costs associated with "defensive" medical procedures. In addition, I would be interested in knowing what percentage of the amount paid for health care is paid out for malpractice insurance. Do you have that figure? Surely it has to be more than the amount of the settlements. Bill
