I too believe in level playing fields as good business strategy. As Nicholas Petreley said in the ncworld article, both Sun and Microsoft will act in their own best interests. What is key is that Sun's actions are also in accordance with developers & end users wishes.

You should judge this issue very narrowly. Microsoft signed a legally binding licence agreement. Are they now acting illegally ?

I am not a developer and therefore cannot debate the worth of Java Workshop with you. There are a number of positive reviews that, apparently, have a better opinion than you.

I would however ask if you have any opinion of Java Studio.

The point I was making in my previous mail is that SunSoft is in the Dev Tools business (& very successfully so). JavaSoft supplies the technology to SunSoft, Borland, Symantec etc.

You seemed to be confused / innaccurate in what you were saying in one part of your post, IMHO, that's all.

As an Englishman & an amateur history buff I might interpret World War II slightly differently. ( My father was a Lancaster pilot.) I seem to remember being told that Britain declared war on Nazi Germany in 1939 & that it was Pearl Harbour that caused Nazi Germany to declare war on the US (a couple of years later)! I may be wrong.

I am not of course suggesting that without the US that the war could have been won. I believe Churchill skillfully managed & built the 'Special Relationship'. It was this that allowed for the anti Axis coalition including Russia to defeat Germany.

Apologies to all for off topic discussion.

Anyway thank you very much for your prompt reply to my post. I look forward to reading much more of your analysis & opinion.

Cheers - Peter Green
