The AMA's acceptance of the legislation in exchange for such a short-term win is downright bizarre. No doubt about it. But it is important to remember they don't represent all, or even the majority, of physicians.

It is hard to see right now exactly what Phama is supporting, agreeing to, or exactly how they are being compensated. So, I'll reserve judgment on what they're doing until sufficient information is available.

I will say this much -- any commercial lobby supporting this initiative -- whether doctors, pharma, equipment manufacturers, hospitals, whatever -- has one motivation in doing so -- and that is because they perceive it will be profitable for them to do so. They may be right or they may not about profitability, but they definitely BELIEVE they will make more money or they wouldn't support it.
