Very true, JL.

"...it's a challenge to keep quality info flowing and refrain from becoming just a cheerleader."

It's easy to lapse into cheerleading mode which is why, when possible, I always make an effort to show the verifiable and always refinable data that leads to the inferences that I make. People can look at the same piece of data and come out with a different take altogether. The thing is there are still some people who have to learn that we each have to weigh the risks and rewards of our investment choices alone.

I echo the comment by some others that as individual investors we have in advantage of depth of due diligence, more so than the newsletters and the analysts who have to focus on breadth AND depth. I think most of us can benefit from pooling our resources to get any kind of an advantage.

Below is a link to a site maintained by Alison Chaiken. This is a comprehensive site with links to practically all the major players in magnetic recording ranging from universities to companies to trade associations. It would be great if more of us were mining the data on this site especially since it is clear that Ampex's game plan is to capture the hearts and minds of the scientific community regarding the use of KM before anything else, an eminently arguable point. In my case, I use those scientific presentations together with the trends in the PC (the unit growth is there but margins?) and disk drive (ongoing and unpredictable realignment of the desktop and high-end) businesses to inform my sense of time to market and my Ampex game plan.

Btw, thanks for all the kind words, everybody. Better the devil you know, eh?
