I provided evidence of my statement. If you have a history book that says otherwise its lying. You're right, Democrats are no longer segregationist but they still pursue policies that are harmful for poor blacks.

From the Civil War to the 1960s, the South was called the Solid South. Why? Because they always voted Democratic. However, after the Dem. party began to support civil rts legislation in the 1960s, the Solid South disappeared and the Southern Stratey promoted by the GOP took over. If the [Southern] Dixiecrats had not jumped to the GOP, who was voting for them after the 1960s? After all, the South was no longer a Democratic stronghold.

Two examples:

Opposing voucher programs to allow school choice.

The voucher program is very harmful to blacks. Most blacks attend public school out of economic necessity. The voucher program would divert funding from public schools.

Opposing enforcement of immigration laws.

The Democratic party is a diverse party made up of whites, blacks, Asians and Latinos. It has to speak to all those groups.......a much harder row to hoe than the one facing the GOP.
