-SONY: Sony is first to offer 2x write, 8x read CD-Recordable drive supporting full motion video
M2 PRESSWIRE-29 October 1997-SONY: Sony is first to offer 2x write, 8x read CD-Recordable drive supporting full motion video (C)1994-97 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
New from Sony is the first drive to offer a two-speed write, eight-speed read capability for CD-R and CD-ROM media. The CDU928E-RP is ideal for today's demanding home and business Storage and multimedia applications. Full MPEG-2 support makes full motion video on multimedia titles such as encyclopaedias no obstacle. And the CDU928E-RP comes with the right software and an impressive range of features to ensure simple, trouble-free recording to CD-R media. Just what you'd expect from Sony - all in a cost-effective, easy-to-install package.
Fast playback, reliable recording
The CDU928E-RP features a common ATAPI interface and offers users fast eight-speed reading with an average access time of 250 ms, as well as reliable double-speed recording. It supports all major read and write formats, including Incremental Packet Writing, to deliver wide-range compatibility.
The CDU928E-RP uses "intelligent" Optimum Power Calibration (OPC) technology to recognise the quality of the CD-R media inserted and maintain the writing laser power at the optimum level to ensure exceptional write reliability.
The drive also uses a track recovery algorithm to safeguard against wasted media. A bad track is padded out with dummy data and closed off, meaning the remainder of the CD can still be used.
The right software to write to CD-R
Creating CDs is extremely easy with WinOnCD from CeQuadrat for Windows 95 and NT and its simple "drag & drop" interface. The software is a native 32-bit Windows application which supports all major CD standards and writing methods. WinOnCD supports true "on-the-fly" recording direct to CD-R, which minimises hard disk usage.
Alternatively, users can choose to carry, out a "dry run" by creating a CD image on the hard disk before committing the data to CD-R. Together with the Sony CDU928E-RP, WinOnCD is the ideal solution for users wanting to create data archives and back-ups as well as their own multimedia CDs.
The CDU928E-RP is supplied with Sony's CD-RFS software, so users can "drag and drop" files onto CD-R media as they would to a hard disk or floppy drive. Once the desired files are in place, he user can just send a command to write the CD.
Complete CD-Recordable kit
On top of the drive and software, the CDU928E-RP comes supplied with one blank CD-R disc, a standard caddy mounting screws, audio cable and user manual to allow users an easy installation and immediate production of CDs.
Pricing and availability
The CDU928E-RP is available off the page and from PC retail outlets at a cost of GBP 215 SRP.
