So will you agree when this does happen, it is the fault of the OS
and should have NOTHING TO DUE with the software running on top?

The whole concept of an Operating System is that it OPERATES. When
it crashes or degrades (memory leaks) this is POOR QUALITY just like
the engine in your car.


It is not the fault of the OS, it is the fault of the poorly written application. That being said, the OS should be able to handle bad software and not crash. NT does this very well. But every OS has bugs which leave it open to bad behaving apps.

If the OS crashes because of a bug in the kernel, this is obviously the fault of the OS.
