Elsewhere on the reform front, the Atlantic has this big article by David Goodhill up, theatlantic.com , with the somewhat misleading title "How American Health Care Killed My Father". So, his dad died from picking up an infection at the hospital, racking up the usual huge bill in the process, but most of the article is advocating what I think is the current Republican line from those who actually have a line and aren't just spewing "death panel" BS. That is, scale back to pure catastrophic health insurance (he mentions a $50k (!) deductible as reasonble) and make consumers pay out of pocket for everything else, with HSA's as a buffer.

He spends a lot of time pointing out how it's basically impossible to do any kind of rational shopping for health services now, though.
