This is the email I sent to the Seattle Times. I encourage you to send a similar email to newspapers in your hometowns.

The US is one of the wealthiest nations in the world and yet we rank 37th in life span, right above Mexico. Cuba has a longer life span than the US. Nearly 50 million people in this country do not have health insurance. While many third world nations have universal health care, the US does not.

Each day 14000 people in the US lose their health insurance.....many because their employers can non longer afford the premiums.

Reform with a real public option is key to expanding coverage: Under current legislation, which includes a strong public health insurance option, 37 million Americans will gain coverage by 2019.

A real public health insurance option is crucial to lowering costs: With premiums projected to hit $22,000 in the next decade, we need to get costs down. By spurring competition, a public plan will help bring down out-of-control costs for individuals, families, and small businesses.

In the past ten years, the premium on my health insurance has gone up 400% while my coverage has been significantly reduced. I can no longer afford these premiums. A growing number of Americans are in a similar position.

Health care reform is badly needed in this country. If you agree, let your Congresspeople know as soon as possible.
