Patients and Doctors want meds which are effective without side-effects. Concerns about the colour of the pill, number of pills, and the dosing regimen is just not very high up on too many people's radar. These are factors which matter almost exclusively to pharmaceutical marketing execs. Over time problems develop with one or more of the components of combo pills resulting in a change to more typical combinations of various individual drugs which are not marketed together as a one pill. It's like the miraculous breakthrough of cartons of eggs which come pre-packaged with frozen pancakes and pre-cooked link sausages so the consumer no longer experiences confusion over what to have for breakfast. .
