"Death panels"...... Very many hospitals have Ethics Committees, which help make treatment and disposition decisions in situations which are not entirely "black and white". They fulfill an important function, and they are needed... However, I am not absolutely certain that - under enough pressure and over time - those bodies couldn't be changed into becoming... policy implementers.

edit - this came out a lttle more stark than I meant... but the truth is that it's not the first time the thought crossed my mind. As remote as it may be, at least the potential exists. Members who object can be replaced.
