How would YOU know?

I deal with it every day. While most Medicare claims are paid timely (for Part B, average 3-4 weeks), I've seen providers go for months without payments. In particular, starting May'08 huge numbers of sole practitioners had payments suddenly stop as a result of the NPI implementation when Medicare could not even properly advise providers as to how to make the required changes. It was a mess and caused incorrect 1099 reporting of thousands of sole practitioners around the country.

Today, Medicare, this picture of efficiency, is benefiting by demanding electronic filing of secondary claims (a far more complex process than primary claims) then providing software that is so unusable that most people just walk away from the money. Probably 50% or MORE of the clinics I work with just opt not to bother with MSP claims because it is too much trouble. They don't tell you about THAT, do they? Just make it so burdensome to get a claim paid that people won't even bother.

Even worse, MC/MCD crossover claims have not worked reliably since May'08. So, Medicare EOBs clearly state that claims have been crossed when they haven't.

Medicare is the poster child for how NOT to run an organization.
