It is, no doubt, unique. But that doesn't make it wrong.
Arguments can be made along these lines for a lot of expenditures our government makes -- e.g., military expenditures to protect other countries. A lot of people say that's wrong, a lot of others think it is important for reasons that may not be totally clear.
The health care debate is being demagogued, on both sides, but particularly by the Obama administration. The bashing of insurance companies, physicians, drug manufacturers, hospitals, and pretty much everyone else involved is designed to tug at people's emotions to sway their views. The claims that 50 million people go without "health care" -- an outright lie -- is, as well.
The administration never set out to "fix" the problems in health care. That simply wasn't the objective. The objective was to force more government into it, which is not something the people want when they get an objective look at things. So, they obscured any objective analysis with emotional attacks. |
