This is a fairly balanced article, at this point all the OEM's get to be quoted about how wonderful they think Microsoft is now. I'll leave you with the concluding quote:

"Microsoft runs on paranoia," said one ISV who works closely with the company but who requested anonymity. "They were--and are, to some degree--running scared, and are determined not to let Windows be left in the dust by Java or Netscape."

I guess the Andy Grove style is the way to go in the '90s. When everybody's paranoid, it's pretty hard to have a rational discourse, but that's life. There's nothing to fear if Microsoft takes over the world, but Microsoft is right to fear that they may not take over the world? What's the earnest and naive Midwesterner supposed to think?
