Obama could make himself a hero and return the rest of the porkulus bill and retire it or give it to the tax payers. He could also raise the amount of capital losses on equities from 3000 to 6K, or 12K yearly. That would help those people who actually lost fortunes due to the severe downturns. There is really no good reason the government takes taxes immediately on all capital gains, but gets greedy when it comes to allowing exemptions for losses.

I know at least 3 people who were hit so hard and fast that they couldn't recover what they lost. Fortunately I didn't have that kind of money to lose, but they are just regular folks who thought they were saving for retirement.
