I had excellent medical coverage while working. I have just gone on Medicare and remain on my old employer's drug plan which is better than what Medicare offers. But I consider myself part of a lucky minority.

My criticism of the US health system does not reflect my personal experience but the fact that so many are uninsured or underinsured, and US citizens die earlier on average than people in western Europe and Canada. Plus the US spends much more on health per capita than Europe, Japan, and Canada. Many Americans are forced into bankruptcy by health care bills -- this is unheard of in other advanced economies.
