I didn't give a specific reason for recognizing humans as having human rights, but its a wide spread and not unreasonable assumption.

You similarly asset your opinion. You can justify one assertion with another, but when it comes down to it, you have your own moral axioms. (Even "morality is meaningless" would be a moral axiom, not that I think you believe that)

A practical justification for the axiom is that excluding some humans from having their rights protected makes it more likely that others will not have their rights protected, but its really not based on that justification.
