ThursdayÿÿOctober 30ÿÿ1997 Washington Summit Pearl Harbour visit attacked AGENCE FRANCE-PRESSE A senior official of Japan's Foreign Ministry yesterday criticised President Jiang for visiting a monument commemorating US casualties at Pearl Harbour, a report said. "It has a quite negative impact in laying the ground for premier Li Peng's visit to Japan," the official was quoted as saying. Mr Li is scheduled to visit Tokyo next month. Mr Jiang's gesture in laying a wreath at Pearl Harbour was clearly made to recall a time when Japan was a significant military threat, analysts said.
