Thank you for so eloquently making the point of my question for me. You see...profit can conceptually be considered an expense item. Where normal expenses are considered a cost of doing business....profit can be considered a cost of staying in business. This is the case whether an organization is for-profit or is a non-profit operating under 501(c)3 status. The only place where is doesn't mean anything is the federal government...where you can just print money to cover the cost of "staying in business." This whole notion that profit is something "evil" is just nonsense.
