Curlton: Continued from previous post...

We now know BC went with Alcatel and BT is in trial mode in 1998.

USWest has an RFP out for a DSLAM unit. I'm under the impression that USWest wants a CAP solution, but after the disaster in BC, I'm not sure now. If USWest wants an end-to-end DMT ATM system we can write Alcatel's name in for this contract. If USWest still wants a CAP solution, Alcatel isn't going to win.

Companies like Pairgain, Diamond/NEC, Westell, etc. have a shot for this contract. Pairgain has it's foot in the door with it's HDSL/SDSL products. Diamond/NEC has an old USWest exec. running Diamond now and Westell is in trial with USWest with it's DSLAM unit for some time now. Can Westell can win it's first DSLAM contract? Bell Atlantic is using a DSC DSLAM and GTE doens't want an ATM system.

If Westell doesn't think it can win this contract alone, we better see Lucent's and/or DSC's name on that USWest RFP from Westell..... until later.
