Currently the power to make health decisions is shared by physicians, patients, and health insurance, some by pharma, etc.

Not sure how "pharma" got in there.

But it does seem reasonable that patients, physicians and insurance companies all have a role. Insurance companies have an interest to protect, and while it may be a major PITA for providers and patients, it is reasonable for them to participate in the process.

Suppose we get a government option. Do you think the GOVERNMENT isn't going to have a role in this decision process? It damned well had better, otherwise, you risk out of control costs just like with any insurer.
