When people refer to "brown" in this context, they are referring to a time in Germany's descent to complete dictatorship. It is a word used to indicate closeness to dictatorship. In my opinion, "ACORN" has developed a tinge of brown especially after various govt officials threatened to give out the addresses of AIG executives during the bonus brouhaha and the ACORN people arranged tours to various executives homes.
