When did this change?

When unions became so powerful as to be counterproductive. For example, where unions can dictate what should be design features of products. Where unions have so much power their demands are met without consideration of the long-term effects on employers or the country as a whole.

They served their purpose 60 years ago, but today, they harm the nation and need to be neutered. I would not support a total abolition, because the bad things they were necessary for could come back if they were done away with. But their power needs to be curtailed, NOT enhanced as the Obama Political Machine has done and continues to attempt to do.

If not for unions, there would be no weekends, no vacation, no sick leave, no eight hour days, child labor, company towns with company housing and company stores.

This isn't a true statement.
