Now to avoid more distracting shallowness, have you ever riden on Seattle's rail system and do you have an opinion on it? Particularly is it worth the investment? The general rule is they're vastly expensive things that have few riders but liberals like them for some unknown reason.:

Of course its worth the investment. I've ridden lite rail in Portland, LA and San Diego as well. They are all huge successes. From what I understand, Dallas is having considerable success with its lite rail and is expanding it. Lite rail [if on rubber wheels] is faster than buses and a more comfortable ride. At one time, almost every American city had them. Most European cities never stopped having extensive systems and are expanding theirs as well.

One of the things that has happened in LA, SD, and Portland is that considerable housing and commercial development has occurred around major station stops........which has helped increase ridership.

Seattle has taken a big chance by not setting up parking lots near train stations. However, Seattle has a rather unique perspective on mass transit and bike ridership. In fact, our buses are built to carry bikes on the front of the bus. In addition Seattle is typically in the top ten of cities for healthy living. People like to walk here. For those reasons, I don't think the lack of parking will present a problem. However, I wouldn't try it in some other city.....say Columbus. It probably wouldn't work.
